Andrew Lowery
Andrew Lowery is being inducted for his contributions to the student/athletes of the Sparta High School boys soccer program. Andrew started coaching at Sparta in the fall of 1993 after a three-year stint at Ramsey HS. He remained head coach of the Sparta program until 2013 and amassed a record of 297-97-18 during his 20-year reign. His overall record is 350-126-20. When not coaching soccer in the fall, Coach Lowery was also the boys JV tennis coach in the spring for 12 years, finishing with a record of 155-5. He now coaches the girls varsity tennis team and just finished his fifth year at the helm. During his third year, the girls team won the Sectional Title for Northwest Jersey Group B.
During his coaching tenure at Sparta, his team won 14 SCIL titles in 17 seasons before the realignment of the state. They were chosen Team of the Year nine times. Sparta won the North II, Group III Sectional title in 1995 and the only Sussex County Tournament Title. His teams won the NSCAA Team Academic Award for 15 straight years, maintaining a team gpa of higher than 3.25 during the season. Sparta ranked in the top 10% nationally with an average gpa of 3.7.
Andrew was named Coach of the Year for Soccer by The New Jersey Herald, The Star Ledger, The Daily Record and Sports Beat 8 times. He was also named COY for North II by the Soccer Coaches Association of NJ in 2004, and he was recently honored by SCANJ for his twenty years of service to the organization as Regional Rep. and Secretary during a ten-year span.
He was Co-Director of Sussex County Soccer Camps for over 20 years, bringing to their youth and team camps coaches from England, Ukraine, Spain, Uruguay, and Trinidad and Tobago. Andrew has been teaching English for 36 years. He has been married to his wife, Suzanne, for 37 years, and they have three children, Hannah, Kate and Sean, who all graduated from Sparta High. Coach Lowery has always emphasized academics, sportsmanship, and passion. Most of all, however, he believes that soccer is a unifying agent in the world, hoping that his players will always remember and embrace how the “beautiful game” brings us all closer to the many cultures of our planet.
